This position is located in the Benefits Unit of the Human Resources Branch and is responsible for serving as the expert staff resource responsible for employee benefits, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), California Family Rights Act (CFRA), and processing of disability pay for California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) employees.  The senior specialist is expected to research critical personnel issues and recommend alternative solutions, and consistently exercise a high degree of confidentiality, initiative, responsibility, and independence in the performance of assigned tasks with a strong commitment to customer service .

This is a 12-month Limited Term position. The Limited Term may be extended for up to 24 months and/or the position may become permanent.

Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility (please attach your letter, if available). Statement of Qualifications

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required.  Please note that resumes, cover letters, and/or any other doc uments  do not take the place of the SOQ.   Applicants who fail to submit a complete SOQ as instructed and/or fail to submit all of the required documents may be eliminated from the selection process.

The SOQ serves as documentation of your ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing.  In your SOQ, describe your experience, knowledge, and competencies as they relate to each of the items listed below.  The items must be addressed and numbered in the same order as listed; do not consolidate responses.  The SOQ must be no more than two pages typed, using 12-point Arial font on standard letter-sized paper with one (1)-inch margins.
