Summary

The Iowa City Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System (VAHCS) - is seeking a Cardiology Physician Assistant for a full-time appointment at the Specialty Care service line.

Duties

• The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers
• This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest
• As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care - you will operate in a model with three core elements - seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran
• This is done in the context of healing relationships and healing environments and a connection back to the Veteran's community
• This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being
• Provides patient support and education during outpatient clinic visits and procedures and treatments
• Demonstrates appropriate telephone courtesy by identifying themselves and their service or workstation when answering the phones and responding to the callers in a polite and courteous manner
• If unable to satisfy the caller's needs - takes message including the caller's name and phone number and forward message to the appropriate individual in a timely manner
• Obtains a relevant health and medical history
• Performs appropriate cardiology-focused physical examination based on age and history
• Assesses urgency of patient care needs based on sound clinical principals during face-to-face encounters - video (telemedicine) encounters and telephone triage
• Assumes accountability for coordination of patient care in Cardiology as well as telephone care needs during clinic administrative hours
• Triages Cardiology consultation requests and follows up to track timely scheduling and completion of Cardiology consultation appointments
• Plans - evaluates - and implements care for the needs of patients with acute and/or chronic Cardiovascular disease in the ambulatory care and inpatient setting
• Performs and reports consultations for potential Cardiology related problems
• Mid-level providers who function - as consultants (i.e. - respond to submitted consultation) must have their consults co-signed by an attending physician
• This does not apply to the submission of consultations or day-to-day writing of outpatient notes
• Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory - qualification - and performance requirements are met
• Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level
• Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 7:30 - 4:00pm - additional information may be provided during interview process Telework: Ad-hoc Virtual: This is not a virtual position
