Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Manager of Operations (MA) who will be responsible for the management of all operational, maintenance, and improvement activities in six water systems in Massachusetts serving 11,500 customers, including the management of supply sources, treatment, pump stations, distribution systems, and water storage tanks to reliably provide superior quality water to customers in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The position reports to the Vice President, Operations (MA & NH), Water Quality, and Environmental Management.
· Responsible for Field Service, Meter Reading, and Cross Connection Control functions in the Massachusetts operation.
· Collaborate with the Engineering Department on capital projects, with the Customer Service Department on customer communications, and with the Corporate Communications Department on stakeholder communications and interactions.
· Manage a work group of 8 to 10 employees.
· Plan and implement programs (e.g. treatment maintenance programs, well redevelopments, customer meter replacement program, flushing, leak survey, hydrant maintenance).
· Leverage technology by identifying needs and working with others (e.g. IT, SCADA staff, CT Supply Ops staff) to use current applications to address those needs.
· Streamline and modernize back-office work processes (i.e. inventory controls, AP activities, purchasing, new services, cross connections).
· Manage regulatory relations and develop/oversee regulatory activities
· Manage an annual operating expense of approximately $5M. Develop budgets and be fully responsible for controlling expenditure and managing costs within an established budget, including managing contractors.
· Develop and implement SOPs for O&M activities.
· Other responsibilities relevant to full Water Operations
Education/Certifications
· Minimum of five years of experience in water operations and/or engineering.
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science required for Manager role
· Must hold Massachusetts Drinking Water Operator Licenses (Full) of at least Class T2 and D2, or have equivalent licenses in another state and be able to obtain these licenses in Massachusetts through reciprocity within 6 months of starting in the role.
