Job Summary:

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Heating Plant Operator to manage and maintain our facility's stationary equipment, including steam boilers, ensuring the provision of essential utilities such as heat and power. This role is vital to the comfort and safety of our building occupants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and Monitor Equipment: Manage the operation of boilers, pumps, motors, combustion control equipment, and other devices to ensure the efficient functioning of the power boiler plant.
  • Routine Inspections: Regularly inspect equipment to detect and address potential issues, ensuring all systems operate within established parameters.
  • Start-Up and Shutdown Procedures: Execute proper procedures for starting and shutting down equipment to meet power demands and maintain equipment integrity.
  • Data Recording: Monitor meters, gauges, and instruments, making necessary adjustments and maintaining accurate logs of operations and maintenance activities.
  • Water Quality Management: Conduct boiler water tests and add appropriate chemicals to prevent corrosion and deposit buildup.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on boilers, pumps, motors, compressors, valves, water softeners, and safety equipment to prevent malfunctions.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in maintaining and repairing boilers and equipment, appropriate safety precautions and regulating and adjusting operating controls.

  • verify fire extinguishers are in good working condition
  • confirm functionality of fire systems

Ability to:

  • operate and maintain various types of power plant equipment;
  • perform standard inspections and make minor adjustments to boilers and related equipment;
  • follow and carry out instructions and to prepare standard reports;
  • perform minor repair or maintenance work on mechanical systems.

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
