BASIC FUNCTION:

The Assistant Director, Athletics Advancement supports and implements advancement activities for the CMS Athletics program, focusing on communication, solicitation, engagement and relationship management. Reporting to the Executive Director of Annual Giving, this role oversees all aspects of the CMS Annual campaign, and manages small portfolio of individuals with the capacity to make leadership-level gifts, especially in support of the upcoming Sports Bowl project. The Assistant Director, Athletics Advancement serves as a direct liaison to the coaching staff for fundraising activities, ensuring alignment with the athletics priorities. This role also manages all aspects of the CMS strategy and communications for the 1946 Challenges, which annually averages $500,000 in support from alumni, parents, and friends. The Assistant Director, Athletics Advancement fosters positive engagement outcomes, and proactively identifies and develops initiatives, both on- and off-campus, to continue to build and sustain a strong base of high-level philanthropic support.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This role works independently/collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of Annual Giving and the Annual Giving team to implement a strategic plan for Athletics fundraising, ensuring alignment with CMS and College priorities and goals.
  • Develop and execute the annual fund solicitation campaign for the CMS athletics program, including direct solicitation of CMS Annual Fund prospects by phone, email, or other channels. Work closely with other Development offices to align strategy and messaging for maximum impact and outcomes.
  • Oversee all communications on behalf of the Advancement Athletics efforts, including but not limited to advertising, direct mail, phone and email. Explore additional ways to support CMS communications by partnering with external communications experts and strengthening partnership with the Office of Strategic Communications & Marketing. Collaborate with other Development offices to coordinate stewardship, acknowledgments, pledge fulfillment, credit card updates and other communications.
  • Manage a portfolio of key athletics donors and prospects, focusing on the cultivation and solicitation of annual and major contributors. Partner with other gift officers as needed to facilitate leadership-level contributions to athletics initiatives, like the Sports Bowl.
  • Track and analyze data to measure the effectiveness of the Athletics Advancement strategy, ensuring KPIs are achieved. Provide reports, projections and insights, and ensure data integrity in the College’s Advancement database (Raiser’s Edge).
  • Work closely with the Alumni and Parent Engagement offices for support of athletics initiatives through the Alumni Association and Parent Network, other volunteer boards and committees, chapters. Maintain awareness of event development, calendar, and other engagement activities to provide alignment with athletics advancement priorities.
  • Serve as the Advancement liaison to CMS program staff and athletes, ensuring Athletic Advancement priorities are integrated into the overall program and executed effectively.
  • Identify and implement new Athletics stewardship opportunities to enhance donor relations with Athletics donors, ensuring alignment with broader engagement efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS & SKILLS:

EDUCATION : Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years of experience is required, preferably in Advancement within a selective, private higher education setting or Athletics. At least two years of successful fundraising experience, including work on giving days and/or Advancement Communications is preferred. Experience managing volunteers is also preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: 

  • A high level of proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and other Microsoft Office software and Adobe Creative Suite, plus ability to learn and adapt to new software.
  • Requires superior organizational skills, an ability to work independently with minimal direction.  Must be detail oriented.
  • Requires excellent goal-oriented management skills.  Must have the ability to work collaboratively and professionally with student employees and volunteers.
  • Flexibility and ability to juggle competing priorities and support numerous initiatives.
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills and an ability to interface professionally with alumni, parents, administration, faculty, and students.  Must have the ability to work effectively with volunteers, with the donor community, with the academic community, and with colleagues.
  • Experience with database functions and queries, particularly with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge.
  • Proficiency in the use of mass e-mail software and the ability to manipulate attachments.
  • Requires exceptional professional writing, editing, and analytical skills.  Must possess strong verbal skills.
  • Collaborative spirit and service-oriented attitude.

REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the College. Holiday, weekend, and evening work hours will be required to manage volunteers. Travel may be required.

SALARY RANGE: $68,640 - $72,000 per year.
